Commemoration Ceremony for Shami Kermanshahi Held at Kermanshah University of Technology
Kermanshah University of Technology once again demonstrated that, alongside its engineering mission, it is also a committed supporter of the province’s culture and literature. A commemorative ceremony honoring the distinguished Kermanshahi poet Shami Kermanshahi was held on Monday, December 15, through the efforts of the Office of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature at the University.
The event took place in the University’s amphitheater and was attended by prominent figures from the province’s artistic and literary communities, the University President, faculty members, staff, and students.
The ceremony focused on the renowned blind Kurdish poet Shami Kermanshahi. During the event, Khosrow Parham delivered a speech, while the director and actors of the film Kerayeh Neshini (The Tenant) honored the poet’s memory and literary legacy through recitations of his Kurdish poetry.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Dr. Hamed Rashidi, President of Kermanshah University of Technology, referred to productions of the provincial broadcasting organization, particularly the film Kerayeh Neshini, and discussed how Shami Kermanshahi’s poetry was reflected in that artistic work. He suggested that the film be screened in future University film programs so that students could become more familiar with both the late poet’s works and this enduring cinematic achievement.
Dr. Peyman Moradi, Vice President for Student and Cultural Affairs, described the organization of such events as part of the University’s commitment to preserving and promoting Kurdish literature. Referring to the relative neglect of certain Kurdish poets, including Shami Kermanshahi, he emphasized that supporting local literature, alongside the University’s engineering mission, is a valuable cultural endeavor.
Dr. Moradi also recited several of the poet’s works and highlighted his esteemed position among the people.
Subsequently, Dr. Ghafourian, head of the University’s Office of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature, welcomed the distinguished guests and stated that the office’s mission is to preserve and revive the memory of provincial poets who have not received the recognition they deserve. He described Shami Kermanshahi as “the Kurdish Rudaki” and praised his poetry for its profound and thought-provoking themes.
Later in the program, Professor Khosrow Parham recited selected poems by Shami Kermanshahi and discussed the poet’s life, literary style, and works. Members of the film Kerayeh Neshini—including its director, producer, and actors—also delivered remarks and recited poems in tribute to the celebrated Kurdish poet.
The guests expressed their appreciation to the organizers of the ceremony and praised the support provided by the University President. They also commended the interest shown by engineering students in the province’s local literature, describing the initiative as a valuable example for other advocates of literature and culture.
The ceremony concluded with a live musical performance by talented University students. Afterwards, in the presence of the University President, the Vice President for Student and Cultural Affairs, head of Student Affairs, head of Cultural Affairs, and head of the Office of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature, awards and acknowledgments were presented to literary figures, Khosrow Parham, and the director, producer, and several artists associated with the enduring film Kerayeh-Neshini.
